Built in 1927 and located within Canberra’s iconic Parliamentary Triangle, West Block is one of the city’s earliest office buildings. As a heritage-listed structure and a key part of the Old Parliament House Group, it holds deep historical significance within Australia’s architectural legacy. Fore Group was engaged to deliver the adaptive reuse of this landmark, seamlessly blending its rich heritage with modern functionality. The project involved a cold shell fit-out, preparing the building for future tenants, along with enhancements to the main entrance to improve accessibility and aesthetics. External soft landscaping was also undertaken to create a welcoming and contemporary environment that respects the site's historical significance. Comprising four interconnected buildings—Blocks A, B, C, and D—the refurbishment was designed to meet PCA Grade A standards, ensuring the building remains an attractive and highly functional space for government agencies and private sector tenants. By aligning with contemporary workplace requirements, this restoration secures West Block’s future as a valuable and long-term leasing opportunity.
